My husband is a talented photographer - a talented amateur photographer. In his off hours I'll often finding him stalking hornworms on our tomato plants, catching hummingbirds mid-flight, or turning everyday objects into high-art. Tonight, Jupiter is closer to our lonely little planet than it has been in decades, so my husband stepped outside our front door, turned his lens to the night sky and captured this:

He and my daughter kept insisting I'd be able to see the moons with binoculars. I can't hold those things steady and I could see the moons, but I thought they might be some weird light reflection from my shaky view, so he took the photo to prove what I was seeing. What amazes me is how far out the moons are from Jupiter
